The Teire Family in Liverpool

This page lists those members of the Teire family whose origins we are researching. Entries in italics are inferred or uncertain, or have been supplied by other researchers and not personally verified by us. The list does not include children known to have died in infancy. Most of the information found so far on this family relates to Liverpool, where we have traced our line back to Daniel Teire and Elizabeth Griffiths. Although Daniel Teire was in Liverpool by 1845, he was born in Ramsey, Isle of Man, the illegitimate son of Daniel Teire and Ann Sayle. We know that his father was a shoemaker. Although we have identified a Daniel Teare who was a shoemaker, we have not proved that he was the same person. The family surname was spelt in many different ways. Teare was the usual spelling in the Isle of Man, but the Liverpool family preferred Teire. We have also seen other variations such as Tear, Teer and Tier.
