Other Families in Norfolk

This page contains some notes on families in Norfolk whose origins we are researching. Some families we know more about than others, but we hope that by publishing this information here we can make contact and exchange data with people who can help to complete the picture. These families belong to the early period of our family history, where there may be few surviving records and often a lack of detail. We summarise below what we do know about them and what we want to find out.

Some of the names below are linked to the corresponding record in the on-line family tree. When you click on a link, the linked record will be displayed in a separate window. There you can see the family relationships as we understand them, together with notes on what we have found in parish registers, census returns and other records.

The West Family

Our ancestors from the West family lived in north Norfolk, although records indicate that they did not remain in one place. We are interested in the following generations of people who bore this surname:

Edmund West and Winifred Wiggett (married 1673/4)
Wiggett West (c1683 - 1749/50) and Edina Purdy (1690 - 1725)
Edmund West (1719 - 1784) and Jane Graver (c1730 - 1808)
Mary West (1762 - 1851) and Thomas Larkman (1765 - 1788)

Our earliest information comes from the parishes of Morston, near Blakeney, and Sharrington, west of Holt. Wiggett West was married and buried in Hempstead, also near Holt. His son Edmund West was married and buried in Whitwell, near Reepham. Mary West was baptised and married in Whitwell, and remained in the Reepham area. We also know a little about the family of Edina Purdy and rather more about the family of Thomas Larkman.

The Coxford Family

The Coxford family we are researching lived in the area near Aylsham in Norfolk, but we are uncertain about their early history. We are interested in the following generations of people who bore this surname, although we are not certain of the line of descent:

William and Sarah Coxford (no details known)
Lancelot Coxford (c1730 - 1816) and Sarah Williams (c1726 - 1810)
George Coxford (1756 - 1789) and Mary Springall (c1756 - 1823)
Mary Coxford (1783 - 1850) and George Yaxley (1784 - 1862)

Most of the records we have found come from the parishes of Booton and Reepham. A Lancelot Coxford was baptised in Aylsham in 1735, but the date does not match exactly. We also have some information about the related Yaxley family, but very little about the maternal lines.
