This page contains some notes on a family whose origins we are researching. Some families we know more about than others, but we hope that by publishing this summary here we can make contact and exchange data with people who can help to complete the picture.
The Winterbottom family we are researching lived in Liverpool. We are interested in the following generations of people who bore this surname:
Thomas and Elizabeth Winterbottom (no details known)
James Blundell Winterbottom (born 1784) and Elizabeth Dagnall
James Winterbottom (1807 - 1859) and Ellen Jones (c1807 - c1855)
Ann Winterbottom (1832 - 1895) and John Pedder (1825 - 1880)
All the information found so far on this family relates to Liverpool, where the younger James Winterbottom worked as a ropemaker. We also know something about the Pedder family, but very little about the other maternal lines. Elizabeth Dagnall was previously married to Robert Quayle, and we believe that Ellen Jones came from Wales.
Some of the names above are linked to the corresponding record in the on-line family tree. When you click on a link, the linked record will be displayed in a separate window. There you can see the family relationships as we understand them, together with notes on what we have found in parish registers, census returns and other records (some of the earlier references come from transcripts and have not yet been verified in the original source records).
