The Clarke Family in Devon

This page lists those members of the Clarke family in East Devon whose origins we are researching. Entries in italics are inferred or uncertain, or have been supplied by other researchers and not personally verified by us. The list does not include children known to have died in infancy. The main Clarke family we are researching lived in the area around Honiton in East Devon. Our direct ancestors lived in the parishes of Farway, Cotleigh and Awliscombe. The earliest confirmed record is the marriage of Edward Clarke and Joan Lee in Farway in 1672. We have found children with these names baptised in Honiton, but we are not sure that they were the same people. Our family tree also includes another Clarke family, almost certainly unrelated, who lived on the other side of Devon. The surname was also spelt Clark in many records.
