We give details of those more recent family members we have identified, but we have had difficulty in tracing the family's earlier history. The Morley family lived in the West End of London in the early 19th century, but their origins are uncertain. We have traced our line back to Richard Morley, who married Frances Corking in 1808 in Westminster. We know that they lived in Soho and Holborn and that Richard Morley worked as a dyer. We have found a possible baptism of Richard Morley in Holborn, but we cannot be certain that this was the same person.
We believe that Frances Corking was born in Battersea, the illegitimate daughter of George Abberley and Catherine Corking. Catherine was the daughter of Dennis and Frances Corking. We have found several other records relating to this Corking family in Battersea, where the surname was also spelt Corkin or Corken. However, we have not yet gathered sufficient data to provide a complete picture.
